GSMA nominates BroadForward Multi-IMSI Routing for Best Mobile Technology Breakthrough

GSMA shortlists BroadForward Multi-IMSI Routing (MIR) for enabling Sponsored Roaming with Roam-Like-Home service capabilities

Amersfoort, The Netherlands, January 24, 2020

The GSMA announced today that the BroadForward Multi-IMSI Routing (MIR) enabling Sponsored Roaming with Roam-Like-Home service capabilities is nominated for the Global Mobile Awards (GLOMO) in the category Best Mobile Technology Breakthrough. This is the 5th time BroadForward has been nominated by the GSMA for Best Mobile Technology. BroadForward solutions are in use globally with leading operators.

The winner in this category will be announced on February 25th during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the world’s largest annual exhibition for the mobile industry.

For network operators it is financially attractive to provide so-called Sponsored Roaming services to Communication Service Providers (CSP) lacking global roaming footprint. It provides them with immediate access to an existing network of roaming partners, which would otherwise take years to achieve. CSPs that use this service are allocated roaming destination IMSIs (International Mobile Subscriber Identity) which they in turn can distribute to their subscribers on a SIM or eSIM. It means these customers can roam into those destinations as if they are a local user.

BroadForward Multi-IMSI Routing (MIR) is a software solution which enables flexible configuration of IMSI exchanges independent of the network used (2G, 3G, 4G and later 5G). The intelligent routing solution has the additional benefit of removing the typical drawbacks of legacy solutions such as the need to acquire specific HLR/HSS functionality and the need to use a separate SIM for roaming. This much improves the user experience as Sponsored Roaming providers using BroadForward MIR will be able to offer their roaming customers the use of their own (home) phone number on local tariffs for voice, SMS and data.

John Hoffman, CEO, GSMA Ltd; “The GLOMO Awards provide a world stage on which to celebrate the most inspirational and innovative developments across our industry, recognizing the companies and individuals leading the way in everything from 5G & intelligent Connectivity to emerging market innovation and diversity in tech. The awards attract a significant level of high-quality entries, so being nominated today is a great achievement. We wish everyone the very best of luck and we look forward to some exciting announcements at MWC Barcelona 2020.”

Taco Schoute, CEO of BroadForward commented: “In our young existence this is already the 5th time BroadForward has been shortlisted by the GSMA as a leading technology provider. Multi-IMSI Routing is yet another industry innovation we deliver based on our single-engine signaling software solution. We are the first to deliver a fully converged, network based Multi-IMSI Routing solution, enabling smart IMSI translation and dynamic mapping. It opens up alternative (sponsored) roaming scenarios for new and existing CSPs to compete with the traditional roaming services.”
